US military says detected launch of North Korean missile




The US military said on Thursday that it had detected the launch of a single North Korean intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) that flew over northern Japan before landing in the Pacific Ocean.

The missile did not pose a threat to North America or the US Pacific territory of Guam, Commander Dave Benham, a spokesman for U.S. Pacific Command said in a statement, citing an initial assessment. (Representative Image: Reuters)

Benham said the launch was detected at 11:57 a.m. Hawaii time (5:17 p.m. EDT/2117 GMT) and the missile had been launched from Sunan in Pyongyang, North Korea.
