Dubai Is Building A New City That Mimics Life On Mars


Like something straight from the pages of Aldous Huxley, the United Arab Emirates has revealed plans to build a new city that will replicate what it will be like to live on Mars, in preparation for the moment we finally mess up Earth for good and have to move there.

Currently referred to as "Mars Science City," the £100 million project will cover 1.9 million square feet and will feature laboratories for food, energy and water, as well as agricultural testing and studies about food security in the future.

Launched by the vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, as well as the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, the city will also include a space museum and sand from the Emirati desert.

Unfortunately, you can't actually live there yet, earthling.

Describing the whole thing, HH Sheikh Mohammed, said: "The new project is another step in the UAE's leading contributions to the global science movement; we seek to set an example and motivation for others to participate, and contribute, to humanity's march into space."

Acting as a prototype to the first human settlement on Mars, the city will be covered by three high-tech domes and will attempt to attract the world's best scientists, in a collaborative effort with the UAE to aid human development.

That all sound good, but just you wait until there's an outbreak of a rare virus that turns everyone into flesh-eating zombies or the whole thing is ruled by a charismatic but deliciously insane overlord.
